TRANSFORMED PERGOLA WITH ROOF
IT IS AMAZING HOW MUCH ADDITIONAL LIGHT CAN CHANGE THE WHOLE FEELING OF A SPACE. IT’S ONE THING TO IMAGINE IT, AND OTHER TO EXPERIENCE THE CHANGE, AS THESE CUSTOMERS FOUND WITH THEIR NEW PATIO ROOF.
The Ide family came to us with a makeover project for their outdoor roof and patio area at their Hawke’s Bay home.
Located on a private, north-facing patio with all day sun, the old-school dark timber pergola was functional but really lacked finesse. With warped timber and the plastic sheet roof having seen better days, it was time to brighten things up.
THE DOUGLAS INNOVATION SOLUTION
One of the most important factors for this Hawke’s Bay pergola was the need for the area to provide protection from the all-day sun, as well as be 100% waterproof.
Another key requirement was for effective sun shading without compromising light inside the home, and the Ides wished to retain the pergola’s existing plaster columns.
As a result, a stronger main beam and custom fixings were engineered to accommodate the extra-wide spacing of the existing columns, ensuring the design was in keeping with the overall look of the structure.
The Alitex curved canopy provides an all aluminium pergola with roof – a fantastic option for modernising a space.
For the Ides, the frame and fixings were powder-coated in Dulux Grey Friars to match the house fascia and guttering, and the entire structure was locally fabricated and manufactured here in Hawke’s Bay using Douglas’ proprietary design.
As well as ticking all the boxes for waterproofing and shade, the client was very pleased with the unexpected amount of light now flowing into their home through the patio roof. Their feedback was incredibly positive that they now have a modern looking structure that fitted the overall aesthetic of the home.
Keeping the existing columns proved to be an integral design choice and well worth the effort.
