Award-Winning Innovation: Douglas Takes Home Two National Awards
We’re thrilled to share that Douglas Innovation has taken home not one, but two national awards at the 2025 Advanced Textile Association NZ (ATA NZ) Awards for Excellence held in Lower Hutt on 25 July 2025!
Every year, the ATA NZ Awards celebrate innovation, craftsmanship, and design in the fabric and textile fabrication industry. With fierce competition from some of the most skilled companies in Aotearoa, it’s a real honour to be recognised at this level – especially for projects that demanded creativity, collaboration, and some seriously clever technical solutions.
Here’s what we were recognised for:
West Quay Apartments – MCL Construction
Award for Excellence – Retractable Roof Structures
This luxury Napier penthouse features not one, not two, but three retractable roof systems integrated into the ceiling architecture, and yes, they’re as slick and seamless as they sound – a complex design, executed with precision in partnership with the team at MCL Construction.
“This one really tested our installation know-how. There’s nothing standard about fitting three retractables into a high-spec penthouse, but the result? Next level.” – Douglas Installation Team
Mix’d Cocktail Bar – Simkin Construction
Award for Excellence – Upholstery Residential/Commercial
Talk about a full-service fitout. Alongside Simkin Construction, we crafted custom curved booth seating that perfectly complements the beachside atmosphere of Mix’dCocktailBar, wrapped in luxe fabric and backed by our team’s upholstery expertise. To top it off, we also installed a retractable roof system that brings seamless indoor-outdoor flow and all-weather comfort to this stylish coastal venue.

“Our clients bring the vision, and we love making it real – especially when it means playing with shape, texture, and movement like this.” – Douglas Design Team
A massive thank you to our clients, build partners, and the team at the Advanced Textile Association NZ for hosting such an epic event in Wellington. It was a privilege to stand alongside some of the most innovative and high-quality work from across the country.
Thanks again to everyone who helped bring these award-winning projects to life – we’re proud as punch.
