Spain’s colour inspiration

Colourful awnings do more than provide shade

On a recent family trip to Spain I found myself focused not on the beautiful beaches and sea, but on awnings.  Travelling in autumn, we didn’t need a lot of shade.  However, the little sun we did see was somehow brighter with the colourful awnings and buildings everywhere.

The weather and sun in Hawke’s Bay, like northern Spain, means that awnings are a popular choice for homes and businesses.  I have always appreciated their flexible shade solution and the ability to customise with a fabric that suits your style.   What I hadn’t appreciated, was how the textile roof added a warmer, softer feeling to the streets and shopfronts.

Spanish shopfront awnings provide inspiration

In Spain it was hard to find a shopfront that didn’t have an awning, often a different colour to the shop next door.  Sometimes the colours were chosen to suit the branding, and other times they were just bright and fun.

Valances were used as signage for the storefront, keeping the name visible even when retracted.  Often complemented with umbrellas, the result was a shaded area that also added colour and personality to the business.

Would an awning suit your space?

Do you think a classic stripe or a bold solid colour would complement your business?

At Douglas we use the best quality Llaza retractable awning systems.

Llaza Awnings, developed in Spain 35 years ago, continue to be a leader in awning technology around the world.

Our team of fabricators make the fabric ‘skin’ and fit it to your customised awning before our installers do the final fit.

If retractable isn’t quite what you are looking for, our fixed awnings are custom made to your needs.
